Harlem is a medium-sized city and regional town in North Holland in the western Netherlands. It is also the capital of the province, west of Amsterdam. It is also the source of the name of Harlem, a famous street cultural area in New York City. Harlem was a prosperous city at the end of the Middle Ages, with a large number of textile industries, shipyards and breweries. It was also a famous city of silver handicrafts. Since 1630, it has been famous for the cultivation and export of flowers, especially tulips, and has enjoyed the reputation of "Flower City". After the 19th century, because of its many well-known fossil museums and madhouses, the name of the city appeared in Cthulhu's novels.
