Thailand and US hold joint military drills

Описание: (17 Feb 2018) Thailand and the United States held an amphibious vehicle landing exercise on Saturday as part of the annual multi-nation military drill codenamed "Cobra Gold".
More than two thousand soldiers from the US Marines and the Thai army participated in Saturday's exercise, along with 300 soldiers from South Korea.
The South Korean contingent is highest since the country joined the Thai-U.S drill in 2010.
Apart from the US' aircraft carrier, USS Bonhomme Richard, South Korea also sent its landing ship, Cheon Ja Bong.
The Cobra Gold exercise is centered around Sattahip Royal Thai Marine Corps Base in Chonburi.
The week-long drills include humanitarian components such as evacuation drills as well as traditional military exercises such as amphibious landings.
The aims of the exercise are to enhance security cooperation, develop peacekeeping forces and maintain readiness for humanitarian aid and disaster relief missions.
