Porsche in 1996 joined the BPR Global Racing series with its porsche 911 GT1 and in 1997 the car would be upgraded to evo with new bodywork and suspension updates. Porsche would not have things their own way in 1997 , like they did in 1996 but would do significantly well in the newly renamed FIA GT Championship
