Kia has introduced its reinvented Sportage today at IAA and they are also presenting a higher specification GT Line model.
Sharing the Frankfurt spotlight with the new Optima, Kia's compact crossover has reached fourth generation which is 40 mm longer (at 4480 mm) than its predecessor and 30mm of the added length can be found in the wheelbase which now measures 2670 mm. The car featured here is the more expensive GT Line which brings a sportier body with those cool ice cube lights, dual exhaust tips, faux metal underbody diffuser and a firmer suspension compared to the regular model. It also gets the rack-mounted electric motor-driven power steering system (R-MDPS) that costs extra on the standard Sportage.
Exclusive to the GT Line version, a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter turbo sourced from the cee'd GT powers the model and in this application it offers 177 PS (130 kW) and 265 Nm (196 lb-ft) of torque. Other engines on offer across the Sportage family include a naturally aspirated version of the same 1.6-liter with 132 PS & 161 Nm, a 115 PS 1.7-liter CRDi turbodiesel and a larger 2.0-liter diesel with 136 PS & 373 Nm and 184 PS & 400 Nm. Gearbox choices are limited to a six-speed manual and a new dual-clutch seven-speed unit.
Other important facts worth mentioning include a bump in cargo capacity from 465 to 503 liters, 16- to 19-inch alloys, JBL 8-speaker 320-watt sound system, reclining heated rear seats (from 23 to 37 degrees) and plenty of safety & assistance systems like lane keeping assist, lane departure warning and blind spot detection, just to name a few.
Sales of the Euro-spec Kia Sportage are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2016.
