Why is the Indian Middle Class Suffering?

From the outside, middle-class life looks stable. A monthly salary, EMIs getting paid, bills managed, routine running smoothly. It feels like life is under control. But beneath that surface, pressure keeps building. Even with a job, the fear of the future never really goes away. Because today, the Indian middle class isn’t just trying to grow, it’s struggling to stay afloat.

This video begins with a real incident that shows how deep this anxiety runs. A working professional, despite having a job, collapsed under the weight of future insecurity. From there, the video zooms out to reveal a much larger pattern. Wealth is concentrating at the top, while the majority lives with shrinking financial space. Rising taxes, increasing costs, lifestyle inflation, EMIs, and an unstable job market are all hitting the middle class at the same time.

The middle class of today is very different from the 90s. Expenses have multiplied, choices have increased, and consumption has become constant. But income growth hasn’t kept the same pace. What we are seeing now is a “well-dressed decline” where everything looks fine from the outside, but internally the pressure keeps tightening. Inflation, currency weakness, and dependence on a single income quietly eat away at financial security.

This video is not about blaming anyone. It’s a reality check. When the rules of the game change but we continue playing with the same old moves, struggle becomes inevitable. The real question is not whether the middle class is suffering, but whether we are recognising this trap in time or only after the damage becomes permanent.
