Cygnets Hatching Part 2 - Swan clutch update
Day 2 of the cygnets hatching. Today mother swan kept the two hatchling cygnets under her wings. In the afternoon the two cygnets, now not even 24 hours old, started coming out from under her wings. They were very fluffy and white-grey in color. Very cute cygnets! Then we saw the third cygnet. Still a bit wet from the egg. The two oldest cygnets are so adorable. They are already exploring and trying to eat little things and peek at anything that interests them. You see the one trying to snuggle into the feathers of mama swan. And, of course, we see cygnet peak-a-boo on the swans back!
So now there were finally four cygnets hatched. One was hatched late in day two in the early evening. The swan clutch 2021 here is looking good! Stay tuned for the next cygnet video!

The first two weeks are key for the survival of the young cygnets. Swans will often leave the nest after two days, even if not all eggs hatched. Here though in The Netherlands they seem to stick around up to three or four days, depending on security or territorial concerns. Anyway, lets see the cygnets get through this first week!
“Baby Swans, when the cygnet hatches, not all of the yolk inside the egg would have been used up as a food source. So, when it emerges from the egg, it adsorbs the remains of the yolk into its body. This acts as a significant source of nutrients for the young over the next week to ten days.
This is a major factor in the survival rates of very young swans. If for some reason, the cygnet did not adsorb a large amount of egg yolk at the time of hatching, the chances of it making it past the first week to 10 days, are very much reduced.” Source: https://www.swanlife.com/swans-first-...
