During the Senate confirmation hearing for Pete Hegseth as Donald Trump's nomination for secretary of defense, Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois questioned Hegseth about his qualifications for the role. Duckworth is a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel who served from 1992-2014 and was awarded a Purple Heart in 2004 after being wounded in action while deployed in Iraq.
Day one of Senate hearings confirming President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet began on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 with Doug Collins for Department of Veterans Affairs, Pete Hegseth for Department of Defense and Doug Burgum for the Interior Department.
