Many people are unaware of the ways a horses' body can be manipulated. This film shows how surgery and consequent pain are used for the best price at yearling sales.
With the recent sad death of racing favourite Black Caviar followed by her latest foal, people want to know about how the breeding industry is a foal factory exploiting the bodies of mares.
The general public is heart-broken and shocked at what was done to #BlackCaviar. One thing is apparent, she would be alive if she wasn't bred to death.
There are an endless list of horrifying practices and this is just one.
It is well known in the veterinary community. Many of these foals could quite easily have useful lives in both racing and equestrian pursuits. This surgery is for the yearling sales.
This is not about what is termed 'windswept foals' needing surgery to correct abnormalities.
Australia has a very high number of foals born every year. (around 13,000-14,000) and according to the Keeper of the Stud book 45% do not make it to the racetrack.
