The Supreme court was to decide on 65 review petitions filed against the court’s September 2018 order allowing the entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 into Kerala’s Sabarimala temple. Noting that courts should tread cautiously in matters of religious beliefs, the Supreme Court has referred the Sabrimala matter to a larger bench. A five-judge constitution bench of Supreme Court by 3-2 majority refers to 7-judge bench to consider SC's earlier decision quashing the custom barring entry of women of 10-50 age group into Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.
