ये ही वजह है कि भारत के नक्शे में श्रीलंका को दिखाया जाता है, क्योंकि यह 200 नॉटिकल माइल्स के अंदर ही आता है. भारत की सीमा से 200 नॉटिकल माइल्स की दूरी में आने वाली सभी स्थानों को नक्शे में दिखाया जाता है.

भारत के नक्शे में पाकिस्तान, चीन नहीं मगर श्रीलंका दिखता है… क्या है इसका कारण?
जब भी आप भारत का नक्शा देखते हैं तो आपने देखा होगा कि उसमें श्रीलंका भी दिखाया जाता है. लेकिन, नक्शे में कभी भी पाकिस्तान, भूटान, चीन आदि को नहीं दिखाया जाता है, कभी सोचा है कि ऐसा क्यों होता है.
आपने कई बार भारत का नक्शा देखा होगा और आपने नोटिस किया होगा कि उसमें श्रीलंका का नक्शा भी दिखाया जाता है. लेकिन, ऐसा पाकिस्तान, चीन या फिर कोई पड़ोसी देश को लेकर नहीं होता है. श्रीलंका के अलावा अन्य देशों को कभी भी भारत के नक्शे में नहीं दिखाया जाता है. कभी सोचा है कि आखिर ऐसा क्यों होता है? ऐसा नहीं है कि श्रीलंका से हमारे अच्छे संबंध है तो इसे भारत के नक्शे में दिखाए जाने से कुछ दिक्कत नहीं होती है जबकि इसके पीछे एक अहम वजह है.

जी हां, किसी विशेष कारण की वजह से श्रीलंका के नक्शे को भी भारत के नक्शे में दिखाया जाता है. ऐसे में आज जानते हैं कि वो कौनसी वजह से है, जिस वजह से श्रीलंका को भारत के नक्शे में दिखाया जाता है और इसमें हिंद महासागर का कितना अहम रोल है…

Simply understand, if a country is situated on the seashore or a part of it is connected to the sea, then in this case the area around the country's border will also be shown in the map of that country. This is the reason why Sri Lanka is shown in the map of India, because it comes within 200 nautical miles.

What is Law of the Sea?
When the law was made, it was decided that it is mandatory to show the base line of any country i.e. the place falling between 200 nautical miles from the base line in the map of India. Simply understand, if a country is situated on the seashore or a part of it is connected to the sea, then in this case the area around the country’s border will also be shown in the map of that country.

This is the reason why Sri Lanka is shown in the map of India, because it comes within 200 nautical miles. All the places coming within a distance of 200 nautical miles from the border of India are shown in the map.

How much is 200 nautical miles?
If we look at nautical miles in kilometer terms, then there are 1.824 kilometers (km) in one nautical miles (nmi). Accordingly, 200 nautical miles means 370 kilometers. In such a situation, the area up to a distance of 370 km from the border of India is shown in the map of India. Because of this, even after being a second country, Sri Lanka is included in the map of India.
