When the days are getting dark early, little traditions like this matter. The annual kayak parade on Saint Lucia Day made me very happy ✨
Every year on 13th December, Copenhagen hosts a Lucia in Kayak parade where hundreds of kayaks decorated with lights go through the city’s canals. The parade connects back to the Saint Lucia Day tradition (originally from Sweden) celebrating Saint Lucia as a bearer of light during the darkest part of the year. In Scandinavia, it symbolizes light and hope through the winter darkness.
