GENALPHA REWIND: A 2020-2025 Nostalgic Megamashup (30-Minute)

We all know the 2020s kicked off with COVID-19, but let's be real, we made some seriously awesome memories during the pandemic and all those lockdowns. TikTok absolutely blew up, and from that moment on, we all connected online like never before. We were vibing to pop songs, sharing memes, grinding on games, and using all that iconic background music from TikTok and FB. Then came the rise of Phonk in 2022, and we even built our own slang culture with terms like "sigma" and "chad." We also got hooked on international bangers from K-POP, Thailand, Indonesia, India, and of course, countless killer DJ remixes.

OH YEAH, we soaked up and enjoyed so much from the pandemic all the way to the present in 2025—from the legendary Coffin Dance meme to the whole "Sigma" wave in 2024. Now, it's time to celebrate and remix ALL of it in this 30-minute video I've poured my heart into.

Another big reason I made this is because it's packed with my personal memories, spanning my entire journey from senior high school right to the end of college—a perfect five-year chapter...

And about what's inside this mashup? We're talking over 300 audio clips and songs (and I'm not just counting songs—meme sound effects and all that popular TikTok background music are counted in, too!).

*2020:* This is where we were introduced to pop queens like Doja Cat, and saw the continued reign of late-2010s stars like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Lewis Capaldi. Summer on TikTok was all about "death bed (coffee for your head)," "Savage Love," and Bella Poarch's viral "M to the B." The Coffin Dance meme was EVERYWHERE on FB and TikTok. And, of course, the era of wearing face masks began.

*2021:* The highlight was definitely the **Squid Game Era**! I've woven the show's audio tracks into the mashup (no spoilers on which ones!). We had Bella Poarch's "INFERNO," the birth of Olivia Rodrigo's music career, Lil Nas X's "INDUSTRY BABY," and the smash hit "Money" by BLACKPINK's Lisa in late 2021. Not to forget The Weeknd's "Save Your Tears" and those ultra-nostalgic TikTok trends: "Wrap Me in Plastic," the "Super Idol" Chinese meme, the "Tokyo Leateq" Japanese meme, and the "Corvette Corvette" and "Big Gangsta" dances.

*2022:* The year internet memes truly exploded with personalities like IShowSpeed. We had Jessi's TikTok banger "ZOOM" and the absolute rise of the Phonk genre with tracks like "Murder In My Mind," "Rave," and "Metamorphosis." Pop was dominated by summer anthems like Harry Styles' "As It Was" and Lizzo's "About Damn Time." Towards the end of the year, the Wednesday Addams series took over the world.

*2023:* Do these trends ring a bell? "Ashley, look at me," "Toma Toma," Lil Uzi Vert's "Just Wanna Rock," and Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" comeback. I also included the K-pop hit "Cupid" by FIFTY FIFTY, which blew up thanks to its speed-up version, and the emergence of the brainrot classic, Skibidi Toilet. We saw the rise of popular artists like Doechii with "What It Is" and Tyla with "Water." International songs also had their moment, like the Thai hit "Vitamin A" on TikTok. This was also the year speed-up versions really took off, with tracks like "girls like me don't cry" (from Vietnamese TikTok) and the "Sure Thing" speed-up dance. To close out 2023, I've included the viral slowed-down version of "Ecstasy."

*2024:* Welcome to the era of *"Aura" and "Mewing."* AI started becoming mainstream, and the music landscape shifted with the new wave of Jersey Club remixes. The breakout artists of the year were Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, and Gracie Abrams. The memes and TikToks you'll definitely recognize are "Bye Bye Mewing," the Billie Eilish "sad cat meow meow" trend, and the "OIIA cat." And who could forget the "WATASHI WA STAR" dance to Megan Thee Stallion's "Mamushi"? Another Phonk dance that dominated Summer 2024 was "SLAY! Phonk." And as the year wrapped up, we got hit with "APT." by Bruno Mars and Rosé, more OIIA memes, and the viral "WAIT" Jersey Club remix dance on TikTok.

*And a taste of 2025:* I even tossed in a bit of 2025, even though it's just an extra in this five-year mashup. I only picked the most familiar sounds or things that were trending up to April/Summer 2025, since I'll be making a full, separate 2025 mashup this December. YEP, 2025 is in here, too—think *Squid Game 2*, the Phonk "Salesman" meme on TikTok, more from Doechii, and a few other surprises!
