The Jacques Cartier Bridge spans the St. Lawrence River connecting central Montreal with Île Sainte-Hélène and Longueuil. Opened in 1930 under the name "Montreal Harbor Bridge" (renamed in 1934 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the French explorer's St. Lawrence expedition), the bridge remains among Canada's busiest and largest fixed crossings.
