ABOUT VALVE:

Founded in 1996 by former Microsoft employees Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington, Valve quickly established itself as one of the most influential companies in gaming history. Their debut title, Half-Life (1998), revolutionized first-person shooters with cinematic storytelling and seamless world-building — setting a new industry standard.

Valve followed up with genre-defining multiplayer hits like Counter-Strike (which grew from a mod into a global phenomenon) and later Counter-Strike 2, as well as the team-based classic Team Fortress 2. In 2013, Dota 2 helped bring MOBAs into the esports mainstream, hosting The International with record-breaking prize pools.

After years of anticipation, Valve returned to the Half-Life universe with Half-Life: Alyx, widely considered one of the most ambitious and polished VR games ever made — once again demonstrating the company’s commitment to innovation.

Beyond individual games, Valve is known for its unconventional corporate structure, emphasis on experimentation, and long development cycles. Love them or criticize them, there’s no denying that Valve has shaped modern PC gaming — from FPS design to esports to digital distribution.
