Welcome to Act 2 Scene 3 of Macbeth 👀📖
This scene takes place in the courtyard of Macbeth’s castle on the morning after the murder and shifts the play from secrecy to chaos.

The scene opens with the Porter, who provides brief comic relief.
He imagines himself as the gatekeeper of hell, unknowingly reflecting what the castle has become 🔥
His jokes lighten the mood, but they also deepen the sense of darkness beneath the surface.

Macduff and Lennox arrive and are let inside.
Macduff goes to wake King Duncan — and quickly returns in horror.

Duncan has been murdered.

The castle erupts into confusion and shock 🔔
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth pretend to be devastated, while hiding their guilt.

Macbeth kills the guards, claiming it was done out of rage and loyalty.
This prevents them from defending themselves and raises quiet suspicion.

Lady Macbeth faints, drawing attention away from Macbeth and controlling the situation.
Whether real or staged, it helps deflect questions.

Malcolm and Donalbain, Duncan’s sons, realise they are no longer safe.
They decide to flee, knowing that danger now surrounds them.

By the end of the scene, order has collapsed.
Trust is broken, and fear rules the court.
