Hooded Crow fledgling with damaged flight feathers

Описание: Hooded Crow (Corvus corone cornix) fledgling resting on top of a sitting stone.

This individual is suffering from poor plumage development, having white parts in its remiges. Even the rectrices, even though dark in colour, look suboptimal in quality. Flight feathers aren't supposed to be falling off (moulted) at this age and stage of the young bird's development, so the two primaries that seem to be just hanging there on top of the wing are undoubtedly broken, obviously snapped close to their base.

A few days later, this individual went completely missing. A fairly probable run of events is that it was killed by a domestic dog, and that at that point, the fledgling still wasn't able to fly.

Tämän yksilön höyhenpuku ei ole kehittynyt normaalisti: siipisulissa näkyy valkoisia alueita. Pyrstösulat ovat kokonaan tummia, mutta nekin näyttävät väristään huolimatta vajaalaatuisilta. Tässä ikävaiheessa poikasen ei kuulu pudottaa siipisulkiaan sulkasadon myötä, joten siiven päällä roikkuvat kaksi käsisulkaa ovat epäilemättä murtuneet, ilmeisesti taittuneet poikki läheltä tyveä.

Muutamaa päivää myöhemmin tämä poikanen katosi kokonaan maisemista. Hyvin mahdollinen tapahtumien kulku on, että se joutui koiran surmaamaksi, ja että se ei siinä vaiheessa ollut vielä lentokykyinen.
