In the Sermon Pastor looked at Paul's encouragement for us to "pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts." We can see the Spiritual Gift of Prophecy, not as fortune-telling but as a Holy Spirit-prompted message that reveals God's heart, truth, or direction for a situation.

Prophecy in the New Testament is primarily for the building up of the church: edification (strengthening), exhortation (a hortatory call to move), and consolation (God’s comfort in pain), and it often comes as that inward nudging or gust of wind that says, "say this" or "go there."

At the same time, Scripture commands discernment, do not quench the Spirit, do not despise prophetic utterances, but examine and weigh them in community; beware false prophets, demonic counterfeits, and any use of prophecy to manipulate, and never elevate a prophetic word above the clear teaching of Scripture.
