Okay, this is way out of the ordinary for me.
I've read a bit about the difficulty of programming the likes of a Feng-Banger UV5R so, I tied it myself, WITHOUT a computer or software.
I've done this before with a bit of encouragement from a donor to the channel. He had explained it in just enough detail to do it fairly easily. I only wish DMR was this easy. It isn't.

So, after several attempts on a few pairs and success on a couple others, I have added a few memories (not the kind you think) to the UV-5R. I also made a few contacts off camera on those local repeaters.

I guess at this point, in comparison to older technology, I can similarly program new frequency pairs or direct/simplex frequencies on most radios, as required. Maybe even inclined to use a Feng-Banger just a little more often.
I'll still carry Realistic/RadioShack, just in case.🙂
Oh yeah, one more honorable mention:
Mike, W4MAF for the UV-5RX3. It's a comparable tri-band radio, easily programmed in the field. Extra radios for more monitoring and utility.
