Kailasagiri hills (cave temple)
Kailasagiri Hills is a rock-hewn cave temple complex and scenic hill situated near Kaiwara (sometimes spelled Kaivara) in Chintamani Taluk, Chikkaballapura District, Karnataka, India. It’s popularly visited as a weekend or day-trip destination from Bengaluru and known for its quiet natural setting, carved caves, small temples, and views over the surrounding countryside.
📍 Location & Access
The site is located in Kavalaganahalli village, about 7 km from Kaiwara town and ~70–90 km from Bengaluru (Bangalore) by road.
You reach a base area with parking and then climb about 200 steps to the cave temple entrance.
🛕 What You’ll Find
The complex features interconnected man-made caves carved into rocky hills with shrines and statues dedicated to Lord Shiva (Chaturmukha / four-faced form), Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha.
There’s a large hall inside the cave that can accommodate many visitors and is used for religious events.
The setting combines temple steps, rustic trails, and panoramic rural views, making it appealing for pilgrims, photographers, and trekkers alike.
🧘♂️ Spiritual & Cultural Significance
The cave temples are relatively recent man-made constructions, begun in the 1990s, yet they are inspired by local religious tradition and devotion.
Free prasadam (meals) is often offered to devotees at the base.
🗺️ Tips for Visiting
Best visited October–March when the weather is cooler.
Wear comfortable shoes — the climb to the cave involves stone steps.
It’s a good half-day or full-day trip from Bengaluru via private car or taxi.
