Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand (FRONZ) was established in 1975 to advocate on behalf of Heritage and Tourist Rail Organisations from across New Zealand, and was instrumental in securing access to the New Zealand rail network for heritage locomotives and rolling stock.
To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the formation of FRONZ, Glenbrook Vintage Railway and Steam Incorporated organised a weekend of excursions and events to occur over Matariki Weekend 2025.
One of the two major drawcards for the weekend was the opportunity for a double header steam locomotive excursion across the Central Plateau to Ohakune, something that hasn't been seen in New Zealand for quite a few years. It was great to see Ab 608 & Ja 1271 swapping positions in Ohakune for the return to Palmerston North.
