The deluge, caused by incessant rains and the swollen Satluj, Beas, and Ravi rivers, has affected two and a half lakh people and inundated nearly 3 lakh acres of farmland. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 48 hours, forecasting more heavy rain. Numerous districts including Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, and Firozpur are severely affected, with cities like Ludhiana experiencing major waterlogging. The situation is critical at the Firozpur Indo-Pak border, where the Satluj river has flooded areas along the fencing. The Indian Army and NDRF are conducting relief operations.
