New Mobile Calling Rule from November 1, 2026 | Caller Name May Appear on Your Phone

A new mobile calling service is set to be introduced in India from November 1, 2026. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed telecom service providers to introduce Calling Name Presentation (CNAP), a service that will allow mobile users to see the caller’s registered name along with the phone number.

Under this service, the name recorded in the telecom operator’s subscriber database will appear when a call is received. Users will not need to submit a separate request to access the service.

The Department has also clarified that incoming international calls from numbers not saved in the recipient’s contacts will display “International Call.” Trials have already been conducted on 4G and newer wireless networks, while implementation on 2G, 3G and landline networks will be considered separately.
