Fire yesterday destroyed a large barn and did other damage at the Hines Memorial Pythian Home. (show film)
Bedford fire chief D.H. Milton says 5,000 bales of hay were destroyed in the blaze. When firemen reached the scene a hayshed already had collapsed. Firemen from Bedford, Big Island, Forest and Moneta were kept busy trying to prevent the flames from destroying the dairy barn.
Chief Milton says about $6,000 damage was done. Bulldozers were used to spread out the burning hay. No cause for the fire has been determined so far. A neighbor first spotted smoke and summoned aid. The home is two miles north of Bedford on route 122.
