He's eating cake "for energy to fuel next week's discipline." Future Peter will have motivation, willpower, everything Current Peter lacks.

The Fresh Start Effect + Present Bias:
Your brain:
✅ Overvalues immediate pleasure
✅ Believes Future You is a disciplined superhero
✅ Assigns magical powers to calendar dates
"Monday is a clean slate! New week, new me!"
Except... Future Peter arrives and immediately postpones again. "Actually, NEXT Monday looks better."
Here's the psychological trap:
Your brain gets dopamine from PLANNING discipline without the pain of DOING discipline. The fantasy of Future Disciplined You feels so real that your brain rewards you AS IF you already succeeded.
"So imagining myself being disciplined tricks my brain into feeling accomplished?"
"Yes! You're addicted to the IDEA of discipline, not discipline itself!"
Planning feels like progress. So you never execute. You just keep replanning, resetting, restarting—all in your imagination.
We wait for perfect conditions:
Clean Monday
First of the month
After the holidays
"When things calm down"
But Monday is just Tuesday's yesterday. The calendar doesn't grant motivation. Perfect conditions never arrive.
"Next Monday will ALSO be right now when it arrives! And you'll find new reasons why THAT Monday isn't perfect either!"
Waiting for perfect conditions is just sophisticated procrastination. Discipline isn't something you prepare for—it's something you DO. Right now. In the mess. Without preparation.
Peter finally understands... then decides to start tomorrow instead.
"Tomorrow is basically today! It's progress!"
No. It's not. It's the same trap with a 24-hour delay.
The only difference between someone disciplined and someone who plans to be disciplined? One of them started. Today. Mid-cake. Imperfectly.
