Masaka joins Rotary Clubs of Uganda in the 14th Edition of Cancer run
The Rotary Clubs of Masaka District and Masaka City have joined Rotarians across Uganda & beyond for the 2025 Cancer Run in unity to fight cancer.
The 14th Edition of the Cancer Run in Masaka was flagged off by the Mayor of Masaka City Hon Florence Namayanja at Masaka Liberation Square.
Hon. Namayanja while flagging off the run made a public call to support Rotary in fighting cancer and create awareness and access to affordable and better medical care.
“This is a great opportunity to show support for those who have and are battling cancer and to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives to this terrible disease.” Namayanja Said
The Cancer Run is an annual event organized by the Rotary Cancer Program Uganda since 2016 to raise funds to tackle the cancer crisis in Uganda by building and facilitating the Rotary Cancer Center Nsambya Hospital Kampala Uganda with the required equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.
The Chief mobiliser of the 2025 Masaka Cancer Run Rotarian Ssegawa Sotius said diagnosis of cancer is so expensive yet a few medical facilities can provide medical care and asked everyone to participate in raising funds for the required equipment at Nsambya because every family is a potential candidate of cancer.
Rotarian Madrine Namayengo, the President of the Rotary Club of Masaka commended the chief sponsors of this year’s cancer run and asked the public to always go for early screening of cancer and avoid future consequences.
Mr. Deogratius Mutebi, the team from Centenary bank Masaka branch said the bank resolved to commit 2% of its profits for the last 13 years to support the construction of a one stop cancer center at Nsambya Hospital because they also need to serve healthy clients.
The Annual Uganda Rotary Cancer Run is a significant charity event in Uganda, attracting numerous participants from both local and international communities. Coordinated by Rotary Uganda, the event serves as a vital fundraising effort designed to address the severe impact of cancer by aiding treatment and prevention initiatives nationwide.
Since it began in 2012, the run has expanded in scale, reach, and influence, evolving into an event that fosters health, wellness, and community unity.
The event typically occurs in August, aligning with Rotary Uganda’s larger dedication to tackling significant health issues in the nation. Individuals of all ages and fitness abilities gather in multiple locations throughout Uganda and other involved nations. The primary event is usually hosted in Kampala, while smaller runs are arranged in various towns and cities to encourage broad participation.
