Today the Citizen Advisory Council is publishing initial findings from the first ‘What Works Here Inquiry’ – a citizen-led investigation for the government's new Food Strategy. 📍Cornwall was the first of four inquiries and involved representatives from across the Cornish food system, coordinated by @SustainableFoodCornwall

🧑🌾 Cornwall’s strong pride and commitment to local heritage is an important part of the Cornish food system but more support is needed to capitalise on this further
🤝 Effective collaboration between local government, producers, businesses and civil society is succeeding in driving food systems change and sustainable food production in the region
🚧 Blocks to progress include short-term funding cycles, unfair supermarket practices that force farmers and fishers to export, and procurement systems set up for national and global businesses rather than regional ones
The full findings will feed into the development of Defra's new Food Strategy, offering new insights into how national government can help regional food systems thrive – and what they can learn from work already happening to transform food.
