CMW staff and tutors had the privilege of being invited to the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) at Darwin Botanical Gardens.
The awards ceremony took place on Larrakia Country, and it was a brilliant night celebrating the diverse and eclectic talent of Australian’s thriving indigenous arts scene.
The event gave us a glimpse into the past, present and future of music being created by Aboriginal artists down under. With acts such as Red Flag Dancers, Ngulmiya, Yothu Yindi, Thelma Plum and Budjerah, covering a wide range of genres and representing their community on the national stage.
We particularly enjoyed watching Community Clip of the Year category, which saw Family band Wildfire Manwurrk, from Arnhem Land, taking home the award.
