SWFL Eagles 12-10-24. Hatch Watch Begins! Incubation Switches on Point; Close-up Egg Views!

Video opens with M15 flying in at 0138 AM, landing on the attic. At 0618 AM, he drops to the nest for the first incubation switch of the day. F23 flies to the CSS (church side snag). Later, M15 leaves the nest, and they fly together around the pasture. F23 lands at the nest, and M15 lands on the FDS (front drive snag). Several incubation switches are included in the video, and at each one CamOps will provide close views. M15 delivers nest material at one of the incubation switches. The SWFEC Team put the nest on hatch watch on 12-10, which is day 32 for egg #1. The eggs will not hatch on day 32 or 33; the hatch process may be under way with an internal pip for egg #1. CamOps will provide close views of the eggs when they are uncovered, searching for an external pip. The shortest time for a hatch documented on cams is about 34.5 days, and the average time is 36.5 days (data from elfruler.com https://www.elfruler.com/?page_id=305). Day 34 for egg #1 is on Thursday, 12-12-24. Eggs can hatch between 34-40 days, and will have an internal pip 2-3 days before hatching. The adults will hear the chick working, chirping, and will feel the movement of the chick inside the egg. The chick will then pierce the shell with their egg tooth near the blunt end of the egg, creating an external pip. The hatch process can take up to 72 hours; typically we see the chicks here hatch in 24-48 hours.
