In order to calibrate a magnetometer, a known uniform magnetic field may be used.
The most common way for creating uniform magnetic fields, is a pair of Helmholtz coils. In a previous video I built a 3 axis Helmholtz coil: • Building a magnetometer desktop calibrator... . The idea worked, but the intensity of the generated field per axis was not known precisely.
It would be nice to have a larger volume of uniform magnetic field with a precisely known intensity.
A better alternative to Helmholtz coils is the Maxwell coil. Let us build one.
