Scripture Reading: Scripture Reading: Luke 18: 24-27
(24) “And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! (25) For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (26) And those who heard it said, “Who then can be saved?” (27) But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
Synopsis: In a world where security often feels uncertain, we naturally cling to what we think will protect us — success, reputation, possessions, control, even our past. But what happens when the very things we hold onto begin holding onto us?
In “Let it Go!”,” this powerful and hope-filled message explores two life-changing encounters with Jesus in Luke 18:18–30 and Luke 19:1–10 — the stories of the Rich Young Ruler and Zacchaeus.
Both men were wealthy. Both were searching. Both met Jesus. But only one walked away free.
The Rich Young Ruler was moral, respected, and spiritually interested. He came running to Jesus with the right question: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Yet when Jesus lovingly revealed what he was truly holding onto, the young ruler walked away sorrowful. He wanted eternal life — but not at the cost of surrender.
Zacchaeus, on the other hand, was dishonest, despised, and spiritually curious. He climbed a tree just to see Jesus. When Christ called him by name, Zacchaeus gladly welcomed Him into his life — and into his home.
Instead of being asked to give everything, Zacchaeus voluntarily let go. His heart changed. His priorities shifted. His joy returned. Salvation came to his house that day.
Why did one leave sad while the other rejoiced? The difference was not wealth. It was willingness.
This message gently but clearly asks the question: What are we holding onto that keeps us from experiencing the freedom Christ offers?
For anyone feeling stuck, burdened, or spiritually restless, this sermon offers hope. It assures us that no matter our past — whether polished like the ruler or broken like Zacchaeus — Jesus still calls us by name.
And when we let go of what binds us, we discover the freedom of being fully known and fully loved by Him.
The invitation is simple, but life-changing: Are you holding on… or are you ready to let go?
Let us learn today to “Let it Go” in Jesus Name…Amen!
