In 1962, the so far respected NEUTRAL stand of the Young Republic of INDIA was shattered as the Chinese in their greedy ambition of grabbing territory attacked India on two fronts, LADAKH and ARUNACHAL. Apart from TAWANG sector in ARUNACHAL, the border towns of Walong, Kaho, and Kibithoo, located in the EASTERN most corner of INDIA, became critical battlegrounds during the conflict. The Indian Army units stationed there found themselves outnumbered and outgunned, faced with the daunting task of defending the territory against the mighty Chinese forces. Despite the overwhelming odds, the soldiers displayed immense courage, determination, and resilience throughout the battle, leading even the CHINESE refer to them as TIGERS’ MOUTH.

The rugged terrain and harsh weather conditions added to the already challenging circumstances. Fighting at altitudes of over 15,000 feet, the soldiers battled not only the enemy but also extreme cold, snowstorms, and treacherous terrain. These unsung heroes displayed exceptional fortitude, pushing their mental and physical limits to protect their Motherland.

In the face of constant enemy attacks, the defenders of Walong, Kaho, and Kibithoo showcased exemplary bravery and strategic skills.
