Neon Skyway Chase continues the episodic cyberpunk novel launched with Neon Grid Rider: the story of a young mechanic who can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong in her city. Not just crime. Not just corruption. Something subtler — a pressure in the skyline, patterns that don’t add up, and moments where reality seems to glitch around the edges.

This episode detonates out of the shadows and onto the Skyway — a suspended ribbon of roadway slicing the skyline, drenched in neon glare and rain haze. Our mechanic doesn’t wait for proof. She doesn’t need it.

She felt it.

A Boomer is behind her — synthetic, human-passing, and moving with a precision that doesn’t feel human. No panic. No wasted motion. Just calibration. And once the instinct hits, there’s only one rule: move.

She bolts from the service corridor, boots splashing through puddles, breath cutting into the night like steam. The city’s noise collapses into a single violent focus as she swings onto her motorcycle. Ignition. A spark. The engine answers.

She launches onto the Skyway — and the chase ignites.

Streetlights strobe across chrome and wet asphalt. Billboards glitch overhead. Drones pivot to track the motion. The rain turns the road into a mirror — and in it she catches him gaining, frame by frame, like a predator that never tires.

The distance is wrong. Too close. Too fast.

And the certainty hits like electricity: he’s not hunting her for information.

He’s hunting her because he decided to.
