Shweta Menon, the first woman president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), stated, 'I am legal Amma now of 504 children', in an interview at the India Today Conclave. Menon addressed the circumstances of the election, which followed the resignation of the previous committee led by superstar Mohanlal after the HEMA committee report on the working conditions of women was released. The report, according to Menon, 'opened up many closets of many people's feeling and heart'. While asserting that pay disparity is an individual issue between a producer and an actor, Menon confirmed that improving working conditions for all artists is an agenda. She also clarified the controversy around the association's name, stating it was always registered as 'Amma', which means mother, without any dots.
