Winston Churchill and Franklin Delano Roosevelt differed in their personal styles and subscribed to different world views when it came to politics. So what did FDR and Churchill think about each other?
The President and the Prime Minister were drawn together by war and ultimately brought their nations together so as to effectively oppose the Axis powers, for whom they shared a common disgust. The close ties between the United States and the United Kingdom were forged through US-UK military cooperation during World War 2. Under FDR and Churchill a special relationship which went on to last for decades was cemented in place. Key moments like the Yalta Conference and the Atlantic Charter shaped their diplomacy, but interpersonal exchanges between Brits and Americans just as signifcantly characterise the conflict.
