The Ufita-Rocchetta Viaduct. A real engineering challenge.

Описание: The Naples-Bari High Speed ​​railway link, 145 km across the southern Apennine chain, is an important and strategic Italian infrastructure works and an integral part of the European TEN-T transport network.

The Ufita-Rocchetta Viaduct, that will connect the future Rocchetta and Melito tunnels, is part of the Apice-Hirpinia Apennine section, a crucial section of the track with 13 kilometers of tunnels and 4 main viaducts.

The entire hill on which the viaduct is to be built is prone to a deep landslide phenomenon.

4 draining wells, built with piles at a depth of between 30 and 38 m and many walls of secant bored piles were planned as a deep drainage system to collect surface and groundwater and convey downstream directly in the stream.

A series of pile walls orthogonal to the railway network and structural partitions made up of pile rows piles, parallel to it, were projected to support the slope and to allow for future works for viaduct piles and tunnel entrance.

1,500 mm diameter piles, reinforced and cast in situ, drilled to a depth ranging from 24 m, in the downstream walls, to 33 m in the upper part.

Approximately 60,000 meters of foundation piles are planned in the entire project.
