1. First Woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize was from Kenya.
Wangari Maathai was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was also the first female scholar from East and Central Africa to take a doctorate (in biology), and the first female professor ever in her home country of Kenya. Maathai played an active part in the struggle for democracy in Kenya, and belonged to the opposition to Daniel Arap Moi's regime. In 1977 she started a grass-roots movement aimed at countering the deforestation that was threatening the means of subsistence of the agricultural population. The campaign encouraged women to plant trees in their local environments and to think ecologically. The so-called Green Belt Movement spread to other African countries, and contributed to the planting of over thirty million trees. In 2004 She was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.

2. Kenya has the Highest Number of medals at the Olympics in Africa
Kenya first participated at the Olympic Games in 1956, and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then, except for the boycotted 1976 and 1980 Games. Kenya participated in the Winter Olympic Games in 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2018. Kenyan athletes have won 103 medals in total, all from boxing and track and field events. In terms of total medals won, the most recent Summer Olympics (2008, 2012, and 2016) have been Kenya's most successful, producing 42 medals between them. The number of Kenyan women winning Olympic medals has risen dramatically, from their first in 1996 to more than half the Kenyan medals in 2016. Increasingly, Kenya-born athletes are immigrating to compete in the Olympics for other countries, most notably Bahrain. In the 2016 Olympics, there were ~20 such athletes, including multiple medal winners. All in total Kenya has won 31 Gold medals, 38 silver and 34 bronze at the summer Olympics putting Kenya at the top of African countries with Medals at the Olympics.

The term “Big Five” originally referred to the difficulty in hunting the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo. These five large African mammal species were known to be dangerous and it was considered a feat by trophy hunters to bring them home, today, however, the expression takes on a gentler form, referring to seeing the Big Five—not shooting them—during wildlife safaris on the African continent. Mount Kenya is a strato-volcano created approximately 3 million years after the opening of the East African rift. Before glaciation, it was 7,000 m high.
