Dr. Ralph Layman, Chief of Surgery at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, explains liver cancer can be caused by several illnesses.

"Some of the known causes of liver cancer can be hepatitis of the liver, liver infections or alcohol abuse. However, the most common cause of cancer in the liver is cancer in other places."

Dr. Layman says surgery is not the only option to treat liver cancer, but it is usually the preferred option.
