Polarizing cubes are optical components which split laser beams into two orthogonal, linearly polarized components called S and P.
S-polarized component's polarization plane is perpendicular to plane of incidence and S- polarized light is reflected at 90 degrees angle. P component's polarization is parallel to plane of incidence and p-polarized light is transmitted through optical component. Each beamsplitter consists of two right-angle prisms, which are attached to each other and dielectric polarizing coating in between.
Altechna presents polarizing cubes which are suitable for high power applications. These cubes do not contain optical cement thus can withstand energy fluencies up to 20 J/sq.cm for 10ns pulses at 1064 nm. Parts are optically contacted. This is achieved by polishing prisms' hypotenuses to very high flatness and then joining them together.
In many cases optically contacted polarizing beamsplitter cubes can replace Brewster polarizers due to higher polarization contrast - more then 30dB. In addition, cubes are easier to mount and handle.
