Let Me Go, Lover! (Hill-Carson) by Teresa Brewer with The Lancers, orchestra and chorus conducted by Jack Pleis
Composed in 1953 as “Let Me Go, Devil” (see the Georgie Shaw post), “Let Me Go, Lover” became a literal overnight sensation after Joan Weber’s recording of the song aired on the 11-16-54 “Studio One” TV program (the post of Joan’s #1 best-seller version in this collection has some additional background information). Brewer’s recording was the second-highest-charting version.
(debuted late ’54) 1955 Billboard Chart Peaks: 6 (jukebox), 7 (radio play), 8 (sales)
THE 1955 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1955 (some were recorded in 1954).
