In a post on X, the TVK chief said the memories of Mullivaikkal should remain alive and assured continued support for Tamil communities across the seas. Observed annually on May 18, the day marks the end of the nearly three-decade-long Sri Lankan Civil War in 2009 at Mullivaikkal in Sri Lanka’s Mullaitivu district, following the death of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. According to UN estimates, tens of thousands of Tamil civilians were killed in the final phase of the war, making Mullivaikkal a lasting symbol of civilian suffering and wartime tragedy.
