Arizona voters approved Proposition 211 in 2022, a donor-disclosure law requiring organizations, including nonprofits, to report the names, addresses, and donation amounts of their contributors to the government. The measure was intended to increase transparency and curb so-called “dark money” in political campaigns. Since its passage, similar disclosure rules have been proposed or enacted in more than 30 states, reflecting a growing national debate over campaign finance transparency.
Andrew Gould, attorney and former Arizona Supreme Court Justice, joined Arizona Horizon to discuss the legal challenges against the proposition. Advocates such as the Goldwater Institute argue that Prop 211 violates constitutional rights, and this week (Sept. 11) they are presenting their case before the Arizona State Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the law.
