In this post we hear the third recording of Die Kunst der Fuge by Johann Sebastian Bach. The first was made in 1934-35 by the Roth string quartet, the second was made in 1935-1938 by pianists Richard Buhlig and Wesley Kuhnle. I got this information from Bach Cantatas, where one can see in great detail when and by whom recordings of Die Kunst der Fuge were made.
Hermann Diener (15.01.1897 - 27.01.1955): German conductor and violinist. Studied in Berlin with Adolf Busch.
1924-1928: conductor of his own chamber orchestra.
From 1928 conductor of the Collegium Musicum, of the Berlin Academy for School and Church Music. In 1934 he was appointed professor there. He was on the Nazis' Gottbegnadeten list. This list was made in 1944, and it listed artists valued by Hitler who did not have to go to war.
The violinist Hermann Diener recorded the third Kunst der Fuge for Electrola (German HMV) with his string orchestra Collegium Musicum Berlin in an arrangement by himself.
