In this presentation, we will hear Sri Aurobindo’s depictions of the Divine Mother as described in his book The Mother and in Savitri. The following statement in the book The Mother concisely defines who she is: “The Mother is the consciousness and force of the Supreme”. Sri Aurobindo goes on to describe her transcendent, universal and individual aspects, and their relations with our world. In Savitri, the character Savitri represents an incarnation of the Divine Mother on earth, but the quotations selected for this presentation focus more on her higher being above the world and her relation with the earth as experienced inwardly by the great yogi King Aswapati. He prays to her to incarnate on earth to deliver it from darkness into the Light of Truth, which she consents to do in the form of his daughter Savitri.
