Do you have an accordion, want to learn, don’t know where to start, AND have some free time? 😬 Try this. These are the three major scales for three row diatonic accordion. In my opinion, these are the fundamental building blocks for the rest of your learning. These are the very first things I learned. Sorry for this long post BTW…

This is for GCF (Sol) accordion, but the fingerings are exactly the same on the other 3-row diatonic accordions: EAD (Mi), FBbEb (Fa), and ADG (La). I will redo this with what it would sound like on the other accordions throughout the week. You can learn how to play songs, but that’s all you’ll know: certain songs. If you learn your scales, you can play and follow along with just about ANYTHING. Others may have a different thought process, and that’s fine…this is just how I was taught. I hope the instructional content to follow will help someone with an accordion sitting in their closet. My goal is for you to have a solid foundation to be able drift off on your own and play along with or learn whatever you hear…or at least pick up songs with ease.
