The fuel line leading from our outdoor furnace oil tank in through the foundation and to our basement furnace froze the other day. We had a couple of days of mild temps and the condensation in the line froze, blocking any oil from getting to the furnace. The furnace would only run for 10 seconds at a time and then shut off.
On the suggestion of my friend, Celeste in Massachusetts, I wrapped a facecloth around the pipe and poured steaming hot water on it. Within 15 minutes, the ice blockage cleared and everything was working perfectly!
