Traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur is back as Malaysia's economy reopens and more people return to workplaces. Data has shown the situation is worse than pre-pandemic levels. According to the road transport department, despite having a population of just over 33 million, there are over 30 million registered vehicles in Malaysia. On average , every household owns more than one car. Transport experts said contradictory car ownership policies, coupled with poor planning, are main reasons why public transport usage is far below the 40% targeted by the government.
