Welcome to Plant City Bonsai's first video of the Fall season. Its still a bit too early for fall color but we go into some excellent specimen trees that will surely be showing off in a few weeks time.
We had a second video shooter along so we had a lot of fun filming this and putting it together. We hope you enjoy!
One of the main themes of this video is featuring fantastic sepecimens and showing the sheer variety of shapes and styles that can be had from the same species of tree.
First we head into the office and talk about building up the soil inventory for fall. A few new tools in stock are featured. Masakuni root hooks in stock. Masakuni Pine and angled tweezers are fully in stock. Root cutters are in stock and end up being one of the most valuable tools in the bag. Masakuni also makes the ultimate bypass pruners, these are in stock. Specialized carving tools are stocked up on as well.
An amazing example of an imported specimen Shimpaku is featured with a very cool story behind it.
A rare Shimpaku in a raft style is featured
In the Japanese Garden another specimen Shimpaku is featured with some gorgeous shari / deadwood.
We look at a Hinoki Cypress with fantastic branching.
Azalea is another versatile plant in Bonsai. We move on to the glass house and talk about the exposed root style Azalea that continues to impress year after year and we have several examples of alternating branch style Azaleas which are stunning.
An old and unusual Trident Maple is featured as well with a trunk that you don't often see. Trident Maple are also a very versatile tree.
A large beautiful cypress with some great features.
Imported Japanese White Pines are featured with great needling.
Acer palmetto sharp's pygmy has proven year after year to be a dependable species and the fall color is gorgeous. Several sizes to choose from.
In the shade room a sampling of trees that are well on their way to becoming specimens
A dramatic Tosho Rigida
Sageretia Theezans (or sweet plum) which is becoming harder to find
Trident Maple grown over a Frisbee that spreads the roots flat so that it can go into a shallow pot or over a nice flat piece of lace rock
Black Pine on its way to becoming a specimen
Black Dragon Cryptomeria or Japanese Cedar with an unusual styling
An old Arakawa Japanese Maple famous for their cork bark which increases as it ages.
Pottery selection is good. There has been a lot of demand for larger size pots which were sold and are now back in stock.
Steve goes over some Blue Spruce that were collected from the Rocky Mountains. An interesting fact is that in their natural habitat these trees only grow about 6 weeks out of the year as the rest of the time they are covered in ice and snow. They are very happy and healthy here in Northeast Georgia.
