NEWPORT, Ky. (WKRC) - The Purple People Bridge now has a new attraction.
It'll allow you to do something pretty special - stand in both Ohio and Kentucky at the same time.
It's one of the few places along the whole border where you can actually stand with one foot in each state because the line is in the middle of the Ohio River.
It's expected to be a popular attraction for both locals and visitors to the area and they envision bridge pictures creating some positive buzz on social media.
The idea came from the Newport Southbank Bridge Company, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the bridge.
Besides the line, there are new welcome signs for both states along with a historical plaque that describes the nearly 200-year-old border dispute between the two states, which the U.S. Supreme Court ultimately settled in 1980 after 15 years of litigation.
There will be an event at 3 p.m. on Thursday to unveil the new display and Newport Mayor Jerry Peluso will share a handshake with Cincinnati Vice Mayor David Mann.
The official name of the Purple People Bridge is the Newport Southbank Bridge.
It closed the railroad traffic in 1987 and later automobiles in 2001.
