#MEANDMYSOMALIA YOUTH SERIES EP#2
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A VISUALLY IMPAIRED GIRL LIVING IN SOMALIA MOGADISHU 2025🇸🇴
Meet Amal Abdullahi , a bright and determined Somali girl. Despite the barriers faced by visually impaired people in Somalia, Amal pursues education and independence, showing that disability is not inability. Her journey is closely tied to Ururrka dhalinyarada araga naafada ka ah , the Somali Youth Organization for the Visually Impaired which was established in 2019 by seven visually impaired youth, UDHAN has already trained over 400 individuals, empowering them with skills, confidence, and opportunities. Amal is also among the National Youth Council defying stereotypes and amplifying youth voices.
In a country where over 70% of the population is under the age of 35, the dreams of young Somalis are not just hopes for the future — they are the blueprint for building it.
UNDP Somalia, in partnership with a new generation of Somali storytellers, is proud to launch “Me and My Somalia: From Dream to Reality” — a bold new video campaign that captures the hopes, struggles, and everyday triumphs of Somali youth across the country.
Through powerful short videos created by 20 young storytellers — trained and equipped to document real stories from real communities — this campaign brings the voices of Somalis to the forefront. From public services to peacebuilding, from climate change to economic opportunity, these stories shed light on the issues that matter most, and the homegrown solutions shaping Somalia’s future.
