decided it was high time I got around to making some of these zbrush videos a little more colourful, and that the big sculpting-skills-test that was my 'Cthulhu Bauble' from last year would be a good sculpt-subject to start with; this doesn't necessarily mean I'll be uploading loads of stuff any time soon, as I'm also getting my head around a new video-editor to get anything done at all, so there'll still be a lot of the old slow-and-steady going on - old dogs/new tricks, and all that.
Anyway, some process: set up the material for the sculpt as Toy Plastic, flooded with the initial colour(s) of whichever elements I was working on; pinks for the main body and the siphon, weird yellow for the eyes...
Colours built up using the RGB setting somewhere in the 35% intensity area of things (higher intensity for the pupils in the eyes, to get harder edges to the black), and varying the brush size according to the need to get into tight corners or otherwise cover bigger areas. Mottling on the skin and eyes done with similarly varied intensity of the standard brush/drag rect/and relevant alpha.
A last bit of bodge-re-detailing to the suckers (lost some definition during a couple of remeshes that I did before I'd got used to doing the process of things more efficiently) was achieved with the dam standard brush, and then it was just a matter of stitching a movie or two together, and here we are...
